I wonder. No one thinks it odd that a month before Hurricane Season officially starts, civic agencies and media announcements instruct people. Prepare for storms they repeat. Get what you need before the storm fills the horizon. Plan your evacuation route. Contact people through whom you can tell all who love you where you are and how you are. I wonder. The first two weeks of the official season sales taxes for all hurricane related supplies are lifted. No one finds the practice unusual. On the contrary, the freedom from sales tax encourages people to buy the batteries and water, telephone chargers and crank radios they need in order to weather the storm safely and well. I wonder. People take the injunction, PREPARE, seriously. Few complain about the frequency with which they hear and read, "PREPARE." . . . Why do I wonder? About what do I wonder? I ask myself, do I listen as carefully, hear as attentively and take as seriously the words of Jesus Christ. He too says, prepare - - - prepare because you do not know the hour or day when the God who loves you will come. Lord, make me at least as attentive to your word, your call, as I am to storm reporters. Help me to take your advice as seriously. You are the Way. Guide me, please, that Your Way may become my way. |
