Program Schedule 2012 – 2013

APRIL 2013

APRIL 12-14

Heroic Discipleship

Looking at John’s Gospel, we will consider how women are called to Heroic Discipleship. The retreat will explore how
some people in John’s Gospel were able to find their voice for discipleship in the public square. By looking into some
good and some not so good examples of the women and men in John’s Gospel, we will then look at how women today
are called to Heroic Discipleship. (Fri pm – Sun pm)

Rev. Joseph Krafft had a successful but short career in business and completed work on an
undergraduate and graduate degree in Business Administration prior to entering the seminary. After
completing his Master of Divinity at Notre Dame Seminary, Rev. Joe served for five years as a Parochial
Vicar at St. Clement of Rome Church in Metairie. He joined the full-time faculty of Notre Dame Seminary
in 2007 as Director of Human Formation. In addition to his interest in human formation, Rev. Joe has a
heart for evangelization, mission, spiritual direction and adult Christian education.

Healing Through the Great Parables of Jesus

In the great parables (sower, the talents, the king, the prodigal son, the Good Samaritan) we find whatever is deepest
in ourselves and meet the depth of Jesus (there is no deeper portrait of Abba than the parable of the prodigal son).
Healing occurs at profound levels as the parables bring together both our unconscious self and the deep healing love of
Jesus. Whatever you most need in a retreat, you will automatically project into the parable story and find the next step
toward fullness of life. (Fri pm – Sun pm)

The Breath of Life: Honoring the Mystic Within

Most of us think mysticism is something beyond us, something reserved for those who are so attuned to God’s
voice that even the clamor of a world often teetering on the brink of chaos can not shake their “inward calm.”
But as many of the great teachers of the spiritual life remind us, we can be modern day mystics through the
practice of awareness. The Divine One is present in our everyday life. This retreat explores how we can honor
the mystic within by becoming aware of the love that God has kindled in our hearts. When we live from this
mystical center of prayer, we will be catalysts for compassion, reservoirs of reconciliation and harbors of hope
for one another and our world. (Fri pm – Sun pm)

Rev. Joseph Nassal, CPPS, is the author of eight books including The Conspiracy of Compassion,
Rest Stops for the Soul, Premeditated Mercy, Moments of Truth,

since 1988. In 2002, he was part of the team to establish the Precious Blood Center for Reconciliation
on the south side of Chicago, Illinois. In 2009, Rev. Joe moved to Berkeley, California to help establish
a Mission House of Prayer for people on the margins. Ordained in 1982, Rev. Joe has also served in
parish and justice and peace ministry and in formation, vocation, and leadership for his congregation.
He presently serves as provincial of the Kansas City Province and lives in Liberty, Missouri.

Resting in the Heart of God

“You have made us for Yourself and restless is our heart until it rests in You.” (Saint Augustine of Hippo, Confessions)
Rest can seem elusive in our modern world. Recent studies, for example, show that we are getting less sleep than our
forebears. But getting a good night's sleep is only part of the sacred rest to which we are called. What is the rest that
God promises? What about the rest that is not only a promise, but a command? How do we deal with the Christian
paradox of finding rest and comfort in the cross? And what hinders the blessed joy of resting in the heart of God?
(Fri pm – Sun pm)

Sr. Rose Hoover, r.c., PhD, a Sister of the Cenacle, first met the Cenacle
while studying and working in
New Orleans. She has been active in the ministry
of retreats and in the Cenacle's internet ministry, and has
published articles and essays in the fields of theology and spirituality.

CENACLE PRAYER ENROLLMENT

The mission of the Cenacle is comprised of three interrelated elements: Prayer, Ministry and Community
Life. Prayer, as is true for all of us, is directed to deepening our relationship with God and surrendering to
God's will. Another important aspect of prayer in the Cenacle is interceding for the needs of our world, the
Church and those who entrust their intentions to us.

Anyone living or deceased may be enrolled.  Cenacle Prayer Enrollment is ideal for an individual or group
who wishes to share the joy of a special event, to give comfort and prayer support during illness or crisis
or to express sympathy for the loss of a loved one.
