In October, 2014 the Cenacle lost a dear friend and supporter, Fr. Edward Abell.  Today, November the 10th is the 80th anniversary of his birth and the day our office staff has chosen to remember how very special he was to each of us. We all remember his enduring message to each of us to "Choose Happiness."  And when the storms of life seem to be overwhelming, "Don't pray the storm away, just invite Jesus into your boat."  We miss seeing you every day Fr. Ed but we never doubt that you are still with us every day.

In a little while you will not see me anymore

And then a little while later you will see me

Not your concept of time or my idea of it

But in God's own time: in a little while

We are missing a precious piece of ourselves

And we will never be the same again

What we are left with are echoes, shadows and memories

But we hold onto the Promise: in a little while

But how could the sorrow Jesus spoke of

A sorrow so devastating as that associated with death

Turn into joy, victory and life everlasting?

The day of resurrection reckons: in a little while

His absence will speak to us of God's presence

It's not too late to join Sr. Lois Dideon, rc to watch and discuss  "The Tree of Life" written and directed by Terrence Malick and starring Brat Pitt, Sean Penn, and Jessica Chastain.

The film begins with a quotation from the Book of Job: "Where were you when I laid the foundations of the Earth?... When the morning stars sang together, and all the sons of God shouted for joy?"

The film follows the life journey of the eldest son, Jack, through the innocence of childhood to his disillusioned adult years as he tries to reconcile a complicated relationship with his father.  Jack finds himself a lost soul in the modern world, seeking answers to the origins and meaning of life while questioning the existence of faith. Through Malick's signature imagery, we how both brute nature and spiritual grace shape not only our lives as individuals and families, but all life.

In childhood, you learned so much by being around your parents and caretakers. Memories of their struggles became a part of you. Through inner healing, you can learn to nurture the vulnerable child you were, in order to become the whole person you were meant to be.  Come and see what the healing Christ has for you this day.

Keating defines centering prayer as "a very simple method in which ones opens one's self to God and consents to his presence in us and to his actions within us." Centering prayer is a meditative method, releasing any distractions caused by thoughts or emotions, and thoughts, centering prayer is, says Keating, like "two friends sitting in silence, just being in each other's presence."

The Morning of Prayer will include:

  • Prayer and Ritual
  • Presentation and Experience
  • Time for Quiet Reflection and Sharing

Presented by Eileen Meinert a graduate of the Cenacle Spiritual Direction Institute in 2012. She is currently the Houston Women's Coordinator for the Ignatian Spirituality Project for people transitioning from homelessness.

Hi, Cenacle Family!

I’ve finally finished this little travelogue of the five days in Galilee. The weather the whole week was beautiful: cool in the early mornings and evenings, then sunny and hot during the day. So get out a map and follow along. You won’t have to worry about sore feet on this armchair pilgrimage…
